Doug Wright Powerboats/DWR Finalizes Class 1 Catamaran Design

Wasting no time putting its recently added human capital—meaning director of racing Gary Stray and vice-president Andrew Imhof—to  fine use alongside renowned pleasure and racing catamaran designer Doug Wright, Sr., Doug Wright Powerboats/DWR has completed final CAD designs for the company’s first Class 1 catamaran. Tooling will be handled in house at the Melbourne, Fla., facility. 

The model will be called the DWR 447C1.

Tooling production for the first DWR 447C1 Class Tooling production for the first DWR 447C1 Class raceboat will be in the near future.

Using its five-axis CNC router, the company will begin cutting hull and deck plugs next month.

“We had our ‘meeting of the minds,’ so to speak, with Doug, Gary and Andy last week and we have finalized the design for the first Doug Wright Designs/DWR Class 1 raceboat,” said Justin Wagner, the owner of Doug Wright Powerboats/DWR. “A lot of data, history, experience, expertise and innovation went into the design, and though we’re not ready to reveal them just the design team has come up with revolutionary features that have never been done before.

“For me, watching them work together was an absolute pleasure and privilege,” he continued. “They fed off each other. The energy and vision they brought to the process was extraordinary. They’re a true dream team.”

Wagner said that two “serious clients” have expressed interest in the DWR 447C1. He expects to have at least one Doug Wright Powerboats/DWR 447C1 Class 1 catamaran testing and perfecting setup in 2026

“For the right client, we’ll even provide a concierge service where the owner just races and we worry about everything else, from crew to logistics,” Wagner added.
