Believe it or not, Ottawa, the capital city of Canada in the country’s Ontario province, historically has been a weak sales market for Double R Performance, a full-service Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats dealer outside Toronto. But that’s changed in the past few years, according to Peter Roberts, who co-owns the business with his brother, Raymond.
Double R Performance is hoping to entice more of its Ottawa-based Nor-Tech customers to the 1,000 Islands Charity Poker Run with a Foo Fighters concert experience. Photo from the 2022 1,000 Islands Charity Poker Run by Pete Boden copyright Shoot 2 Thrill Pix.
“For a long time, we didn’t sell a single boat in Ottawa—I even used to joke about it with the Nor-Tech people,” Roberts explained. “But during the last few years we have developed a good customer group there.
“A lot of them have cottages in the 1,000 Islands area and keep their boats there during the summer,” he continued. “And they’re all pumped to do the 1,000 Islands Charity Poker Run. I believe we already have two Ottawa Nor-Tech owners confirmed and registered and we’re hoping for more.”
To help prime that pump, Roberts will be taking interested Ottawa Nor-Tech clients to a Foo Fighters concert in their hometown on the Wednesday night before the event, which is set for July 13-15 in Clayton, N.Y.
Would-be participants should waste no time signing up. According to 1,000 Islands Charity Poker Run organizing committee member Renee Lalonde, the event is already two-thirds full—and registration opened just five days ago.
Said Roberts, “We’re going to have a great time at the concert Wednesday night to start the week out right. And then we get to enjoy one of the world’s most beautiful and worthwhile poker runs.”
