Encouraged by orders—including one of their own—taken by several Nor-Tech dealers during last month’s Miami International Boat Show, Peter and Raymond Roberts have ordered a Nor-Tech Sport 450 CC high-performance center console for their Double R Performance full service new and pre-owned powerboat dealership in Ontario, Canada. With the 45-footer included, Double R currently has four boats—a pair of 390 Sport CCs and one 34 Sport CC—on order with the Fort Myers, Fla., center console, catamaran and V-bottom sportboat builder.

“We always have a 39 on order and we almost never take delivery of it—it’s sold before we do,” said Peter Roberts. “We’ve been servicing Nor-Techs for longer, but we ordered our first new boat from them 11 years ago. We have always been very conservative with our orders and the 39 program has worked really well for us. We survived the meltdown of 2008 and 2009. I ordered a 34 in January. My goal is to do one Nor-Tech a month, and so far I’m on track.

“The 45 is such a big machine, and when I asked (Nor-Tech co-owner) Trond (Schou), I was shocked at how far out they were,” he continued. “Eventually, I got around to going for a ride in the 45 that was at the show and I was so impressed. I knew that my brother, Raymond, was on his way back to Nor-Tech with Trond and I called him and asked him to order a 45 before he got out of the car. We have production slot No. 24.”

Roberts said he hopes to have the 45-footer sold before it even goes into the mold. For that reason, he hasn’t settled on a multi-outboard-engine power package for the boat, though likely it will be of the Mercury Racing Verado 400R or Mercury Marine Verado 350 variety.

“At least now we’re in the program,” he said. “By the time they lay glass, I don’t plan on owning it so there’s no need spec power now.”
