Double R Orders Triple Verado 400-Powered 34’ Nor-Tech and Outerlimits SV 29

With 10 orders and counting for new models so far this year, Double R Performance in Ontario, Canada, has kicked off 2015 in strong fashion. Most of the company’s sales have been in the Nor-Tech center console line, such as the 2015 Miami Boat Show-debuted 390 Sport Center Console powered by quad 400-hp Mercury Racing Verado outboard engines. (That boat is headed fort the inaugural Erie Poker Run —Double R is a major sponsor for the Erie and Buffalo Poker Runs.) But the company also has a triple Verado 300-powered Nor-Tech 360 Monte Carlo, which reportedly will top 80 mph, on the books.

Shown here with triple 300-hp Mercury Marine Verado outboard engines, the latest 340 Sport Center console ordered through Double R Performance will be powered triple Mercury Racing Verado 400R engines.

On the more wilder side of the center console segment, Double R recently took an order for Nor-Tech 340 center console with triple Verado 400R outboards. That 34-footer is expected to top out in the 90-mph range.

“Center consoles are bringing people into the sport who weren’t in the sport before,” said Peter Roberts, one of the owners of Double R. “They had watched their friends with traditional stern-drive performance sportboats spend lots of money on gas and maintenance and they weren’t into that program. They watched their friends with center consoles just putting gas in them and driving them away and they said, ‘Hey, I can do that.'”

Roberts is confident enough in the center console market that he is in the process of ordering two “stock” Nor-Tech models for the dealership. “We’ll either order two 39s or one 39 and one 34,” he said.

Roberts also reported that he recently ordered an Outerlimits SV 29 with a Mercury Racing 600 SCi engine for a customer who boats on a small lake north of Ontario. A new SV 29 has not been completed in more than a year. The new 29-footer is scheduled to be finished and delivered by the end of June.

Double R has facilitated deliveries to Canadian Outerlimits customers for several years. Roberts met with Outerlimits’ Paul Fiore and Dan Kleitz earlier this year, and Double R will be taking a more aggressive role as an Outerlimits dealer moving forward.

“We have been working with Outerlimits for some time, but are going to be pushing more boats for them as a dealer now,” said Roberts. “We aren’t going to stock them—those boats are too custom and buyers typically wants to be involved in the ‘build’ of the project.”
