Desert Storm Poker Run Moved to First Weekend of May

The organizers of the Desert Storm Poker Run in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., have decided to move the event from its typical late-April date to the first week of May next year. According to LakeRacer LLC’s Jim Nichols, who organizes the large performance boat event with DSM Events’ Jim Russell, the dates are set for May 1-7 at the usual host location—the Nautical Beachfront Resort.

“There are a couple of reasons for the change,” explained Nichols, who has been busy working on next month’s Monster Bash Poker Run in Lake Havasu (Oct. 14-15). “First, although I know we can’t control the weather, we’re hoping to make it less likely to have a rain-out. Second, we can get away from the same weekend as the Laughlin River Run (Motorcycle Rally), which is a rather large event in our area.”

Nichols is hoping to get the word out on the new dates so people can make or modify any existing travel arrangements with plenty of notice. He said he understands that the dates conflict with another one of the country’s largest events, the Tickfaw 200 Poker Run in Louisiana, and he’s OK with that because he doesn’t envision too many participants having to choose one event or the other.

Only time will tell if Nichols and company get much negative feedback or not. There’s definitely one media outlet that will be extra busy that weekend.
