Less than two months after testing its first M28 catamaran and bringing it to the Desert Storm Poker Run in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., in early May, the team at DCB Performance Boats in El Cajon, Calif., wrapped up the next two 28-foot outboard-powered cats this week and delivered them to customers in opposite directions.

This spectacular DCB M28R is heading to a couple in Alabama.

The second M28R, a sensational gray, green and black beauty with twin Mercury Racing Verado 400R engines like the first one, was shipped to first-time DCB customers, Stephen and Kelly Marino in Auburn, Ala. The Marinos, who had owned a Fountain Powerboats 38 Lighting with twin Mercury Racing 700SCi engines, sold their V-bottom about six years ago to focus on starting a family. Now that their twin three-year-old girls are getting a little older, the Marinos decided it was time to get another “family friendly” performance boat.

According Steve, who calls himself an extremely detailed-oriented person, his family opted for the outboard-powered M28 dubbed Twin Ladies because he didn’t think there was a builder out there who went toe to toe with DCB in terms of attention to detail and being able to customize everything in the boat.

He also pointed toward three more influencing factors in his decision to go with the M28—the overall sportiness, the roomy cockpit and the outboard power. He said he’s looking forward to the reliability, the turn-key operation and the quietness of the 400-hp Verados. He added that he plans to run the boat at a local event on Lake Martin in a few weeks—the 14th annual Lions Lake Martin Charity Poker Run—at the Emerald Coast Poker Run in Destin, Fla., in early August and at the Lake Cumberland Poker Run in Kentucky in early September.

DCB M28 hull No. 3 is going to a client in Canada.

The third M28R—a “Carbon Edition” model with gray gelcoat and red and black accents that’s also powered by a pair of Verado 400R engines—is on its way to Shuswap Lake in Canada, which has become a surprisingly popular spot for DCB models.

The team at DCB water-tested the boat, which is named Carbon Credits, on California’s Lake Elsinore before sending it north for the summer, and according to Jeff Johnston, president of DCB, it performed well in somewhat sticky conditions nearing 100 degrees on the lake.
