Customer Service Push Yields Business Increase for Wozencraft Insurance

During the past two years, Tustin, Calif.-based Wozencraft Insurance, a brokerage outfit that specializes in writing go-fast boat policies, has invested significantly in the training, education and certification of all of its employees. That means in addition to company principal Devin Wozencraft, the agency’s Tanah Kinsey, Evelyn Gomez, Stacey Alari, Jareni Nunez and Tania Parra all are currently licensed by the California State Department of Insurance. (The most recently licensed Wozencraft employee earned her certification about a month ago.)

According to Wozencraft, the move enabled the company to more efficiently respond to the rising demand for marine insurance—fueled by an increase in new- and used-boat sales—in 2015. Wozencraft estimated that his company’s go-fast boat insurance business had increased 20 to 25 percent this year.

“Our customer service has become so much better—all of our employees can now work in an advisory role with our customers,” Wozencraft said. “We are now able to spread ourselves more ‘richly,’ if that’s the right word.

“We could only get so big if I were the entire sales force,” he continued. “That’s not the case now. Two people contacted me yesterday, one with an Eliminator Boats 36’ Daytona and another with a 30’ Daytona, to get insurance right away. I wanted to help them immediately but at the moment I was getting a 48-foot MTI and other big boats insured. So another person in my office wrote them, while another was writing a Fountain Powerboats sportboat and a Magic Powerboats deckboat. That couldn’t happen if it were just me here.”
