Commentary: Notes From A Quiet Weekend

Mystic Powerboats M4200 luxury performance center console made a splash at the West Palm Beach International Boat Show.

With the exception of the West Palm Beach International Boat Show in Florida, pretty much nothing “official” happened on the high-performance powerboating scene last weekend. I’m not talking about small groups of folks getting together for informal fun runs, lunch runs and raft-ups in Florida or Arizona—about the only places with good enough weather for those things to happen in late March. I’m talking about organized gatherings such as the Florida Powerboat Club’s Tampa Bay Poker Run the weekend prior.

Don’t go ballistic. I know what you’re thinking: Since when did the West Palm Beach International Boat Show qualify as a go-fast boat happening? It’s a very fair question with a very simple answer.

Since performance-oriented, luxurious center consoles became the bread and butter for the likes of Cigarette Racing Team, Mystic Powerboats and Sunsation Powerboats.

Why else would Performance Boat Center’s Brett Manire and Scott Sjogren of Mystic Powerboat Sales spend their weekend—Manire representing Sunsation and Cigarette and Sjogren representing Mystic—working the West Palm event?
