Cigarette Racing Team will build a VIP Edition 38′ Top Gun for the Qatar Marine Sports Federation, according to a press release from the organization. Under construction to support the Spirit of Qatar team’s 2014 offshore racing season campaign in the United States, the boat will be unveiled at the 2014 Miami International Boat Show next month.
“This is a new partnership that we have gained from racing in the U.S.A. and I think it will work well for both the QMSF and Cigarette Racing,” said Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor Al-Thani, the president of the QMSF, in the release. “QMSF requires a VIP boat to take out sponsors on race day and Cigarette offered their skills and know-how to build the boat to cater for our needs.”
“We gained a huge fan base in America through our race program in 2013 and we are proud of that,” he added. “Cigarette is one of the best brand names in the boating industry and I am sure that they will deliver a top class boat that will reflect the image of Qatar and the goals of the QMSF.”
Details on the 38-footer such as power, graphics and options were not available. “You’ll have to wait for the Miami show to see it,” said Skip Braver, the owner and chief executive officer of the Cigarette Racing Team in Opa-locka, Fla.
Added Hector Rodrigues, the chief operation officer for the company, in the release, “We are delighted to be a part of this exciting venture and look forward to working with Sheikh Hassan and the Qatar Marine Sports Federation.”
While Sheikh Hassan said the Spirit of Qatar team will continue to compete under the Super Boat International umbrella, the outfit has not finalized its specific race-to-race plans, according to the release, beyond a commitment to run in the 2014 Key West Offshore World Championships.
