Cigarette 50 Marauder ‘AMG Monaco’ Unveiled for Grand Prix Weekend

With the historic Grand Prix of Monaco happening this Sunday, Cigarette Racing Team and Mercedes-AMG took the opportunity to showcase their latest “boat-and-car” collaboration. Unlike the other fine automobiles that inspired the graphic and interior themes of past Cigarette 50 Marauders, this one will be running in a Formula 1 race as it’s the ride for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas team of Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton, and it will run in this weekend’s race through the famed streets of Monte Carlo.

During a media event dubbed “Speed & Style,” Hamilton took to the water in the Cigarette Racing 50 Marauder AMG Monaco, which is powered by twin Mercury Racing 1550 engines. Not to be outdone, Rosberg piloted the S-Class Cabriolet and the Mercedes-Benz Style ARROW460-Granturismo luxury motor yacht.

“The Cigarette Racing speedboat and our Mercedes-Benz Style luxury yacht ARROW460-Granturismo represent a coming together of two design icons,” said Gorden Wagener, Daimler’s head of design, in a press release. “Each of them is hot and cool as their design is both attractive and surprisingly new, making both boats perfect embodiments of emotion and intelligence.

“The ARROW460-Granturismo carries our Mercedes genes throughout,” he added. “We have transferred an automotive design idiom to a yacht—and this design statement far outside the usual mainstream in the boat industry allows us to create a totally original aesthetic.”

According to the press release, the Cigarette Racing 50 Marauder AMG Monaco was constructed using “a new lay-up process that has been specially developed for racing and reduces weight, but also ensures better handling under high loads.” Mercedes Benz designers handled the boat’s the exterior design featuring black and silver tones contrasted by turquoise-green highlights, as well as the 50-footer’s interior design, which is inspired by the “classic Cigarette Racing cockpit.”

The ongoing collaboration between Cigarette Racing Team and Mercedes-AMG began in 2007.

Designed by Mercedes-Benz Style and developed in collaboration with Silver Arrow Marine, the ARROW460-Granturismo motor yacht celebrated its world premiere in April 2016. With this model, Mercedes-Benz is developing a “completely new boat concept,” according to the release. The 14-metre-long, 706 kW (960 hp) Silver Arrow of the Seas combines “the performance of the famous Mercedes-Benz sports cars with unique innovations from the boat industry.” The yacht’s crossover design reportedly combines “the advantages of an open boat with the hull of a cabin cruiser,” which makes it ideal for day cruising as well as overnighting.
