To say the West Coast custom powerboat market has changed forever in the past five years would be putting it mildly. To be blunt, the custom go-fast boat world West of the Mississippi has been decimated. That’s not to say that a lot of go-fast boating doesn’t still get done on Lake Havasu and the other Colorado River-fed lakes such as Mead and Powell, but in terms of new-model sales during the past five years, the word that comes up most often is “bleak.”
At least one major West Coast builder had to file bankruptcy and restructure. Another needed outside investment to keep the lights on. Others simply turned off the lights and walked away. Hard times, for sure.
