Earlier today, the Qatar Team‘s Alex Carella and Shaun Torrente qualified in pole position and second place for tomorrow’s Grand Prix of Qatar on Doha Bay. The event makes the start of the second half to the 2013 UIM F1 H2O World Championship series, which has three races in the next four weekends.
The teammates dominated the second qualifying session and were the last two drivers on the water for the Q3 shootout. Sweden’s Jonas Andersson set the target time of 46.18 seconds and that time looked to be good enough until Torrente set a new target of 45.88 seconds and Carella went even faster with a 45.81-second lap on his first tour of the course to claim pole.
The pole position gave Carella his eighth career No. 1 position and second straight after winning the last round back in October at Liuzhou, China.
The start of the 10th annual Grand Prix of Qatar is set for Saturday at 12:45 p.m. GMT (7:45 a.m. EST). You can follow all of the action live on f1h2o.com.
