A division of publicly held Brunswick Corporation, Brunswick Boat Group will open the Brunswick Fiberglass Boat Technology Center this fall in Edgewater, Fla. The 45,000-square-foot facility will “be home to the industry’s most formidable boat product development team, with a mission to design, engineer, and launch innovative, industry-leading products for two of the most iconic brands in the marine industry—Boston Whaler and Sea Ray.”
The news was announced in a press release from Brunswick Boat Group this week.
While the Brunswick Fiberglass Boat Technology Center will focus on the Boston Whaler and Sea Ray brands, Brunswick’s leadership believes it will have even father reaching benefits for the marine industry.
“Brunswick Corporation will create a commanding position in boat design and innovation with the formation of our world-class technology center,” said David Foulkes, Brunswick’s chief executive officer, in the release. “Over the last few years, we have established a strong foundation of cross-functional and cross-brand initiatives and investments that leverage the power of our enterprise. The Brunswick Fiberglass Boat Technology Center is one of the essential building blocks for our future vision; we will continue to define, create and embody the future of recreational boating.”
Through expert design and engineering services, all brands in the Brunswick portfolio will benefit from the “unparalleled depth and breadth of marine product development talent that such a facility will be able to attract and develop,” the release stated. The center provides additional resources to the company and will create technology and engineering jobs in Central Florida.
“Technology has completely changed the boating industry over the past decade and both Boston Whaler and Sea Ray have been at the forefront of that change,” said Huw Bower, Brunswick Boat Group president, in the release. “The entire Brunswick Boat Group will benefit from shared resources in the new technology center and there is a tremendous amount of growth opportunity for all of our brands.”
Foulkes said he believes that 2019 will be a “transformative year” for Brunswick.
“The addition of the new technology center is just one piece of the overall story,” said Foulkes. “As we continue to position our focus and vision solely on the global marine industry, it will be imperative that we continue to create centers of excellence to consistently grow and improve the boating experience.”
