Bringing the Storm to the Desert Storm Street Party

As usual, the Desert Storm Poker Run Street Party that rocked Arizona’s Lake Havasu City on Thursday evening was a night to remember. Between radical catamarans from the likes of DCB Performance Boats, Marine Technology Inc. (MTI), Mystic Powerboats and Skater Powerboats to jaw-dropping V-bottoms from Cigarette Racing, Fountain Powerboats, Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats, Sunsation Boats and plenty of others, the hardware for boat enthusiasts to scrutinize was off the charts.

The crowds were out in full effect Thursday evening despite a solid downpour midway through the Desert Storm Poker Run Street Party.

And that’s not even counting the radical locally built builts from Nordic Boats, Advantage Boats, Domn8er Boats and E-Ticket Performance Boats, all of which are built in town. Or the long list of engines, stereo equipment, cleaning supplies and much more, which made up a large part of the displays along the welcoming strip in Lake Havasu.

The best part—at least for those of us in Lake Havasu—is that the Street Party is essentially the pre-party to the longstanding event featuring a poker run on Friday and a top-speed shootout on Saturday. Still, despite some rain, thunder and lightning to really emphasize the “storm” in Desert Storm, the Street Party was a huge success.

For a quick look at some of the boats on display at the Street Party watch the slideshow above—or the one below.

Everyone from Win Farnsworth, the owner behind the Silver Lining M41 DCB and the Low Altitude 50-foot Mystic that were parked directly across McCulloch Blvd. from each other, to Skater Powerboats owners Gary Smith and Don London enjoyed themselves immensely. Getting a chance to see performance boaters from across the country, such as Kenny Mungle of Texas and Kort Wittich of Louisiana, enjoying the event as well as the Colorado River town for the first time is always cool, too.

For speedonthewater.com, the annual street festival provides an opportunity to see the latest and greatest products as well as meet many of the readers who help keep the website growing. It truly is a one-of-a-kind event. And boy are our feet tired.
