Breaking Now: Pastrana Throttling Back On Offshore Racing

The Huski Chocolate Team, which earned the 2022 Union Internationale Motonautique Class 1 Championship Series title with veteran throttleman Steve Curtis and driver Travis Pastrana in the cockpit of the team’s 47-foot Victory catamaran, will need a new driver for most of the 2023 season. That’s the word from Pastrana, a motorsports legend who posted the news on the Subaru Motorsports USA Instagram account today.

“Been on the road a lot racing both 2 and 4 wheels professionally for over 25 years,” Pastrana wrote. “A bad injury to kick off 2022 followed by the passing of two close friends has me taking a step back to re-evaluate priorities. I love racing with all of my heart but I’m spread too thin at the moment to be the driver, the rider, the father and the husband I want to be. I will be focusing on Nitro Rallycross but taking a step back from rally and offshore powerboat racing. While it is likely that I will come to a race or two over the year in both of these series, I felt that committing to the full championships again was not in my best interest as a racer or a family man.”

There are six races on the 2023 Class 1 Championship Series schedule, which means that the Huski Chocolate team will need a replacement driver for the Mercury Racing 1100 Comp engine-powered raceboat even if Pastrana is able to commit to two races. For the past two seasons, veteran offshore racer Brit Lilly has replaced the motorsports legend in the cockpit when other racing and family obligations took precedent.
