Boat Count 62 and Climbing for Big Cat Poker Run

By the time registration closes tomorrow at 7:30 p.m, there could be 70-plus high-performance boats signed up for Saturday’s Big Cat Poker Run in Discovery Bay, Calif. That solid boat continues this summer’s positive attendance trend at regional poker runs, a trend that includes a record-setting 102-boat fleet at last weekend’s Buffalo Poker Run in New York and an 84-boat fleet—another record setter—at the Boyne Thunder Poker Run in July on Lake Michigan.

Among the spectacular go-fast boats in the Big Cat Poker Run fleet will be the newest M41 catamaran from Dave's Custom Boats.Among the spectacular go-fast boats in Saturday’s Big Cat Poker Run fleet will be the newest M41 catamaran from Dave’s Custom Boats.

“We have 62 boats registered right now with something like 240 people participating, and we know we have at least four boats coming tomorrow that haven’t registered yet,” said Allen Bellinghausen, one of the event’s original founders, who is working as a consultant for the Discovery Bay Lion’s Club, the run’s organizer and primary charity. “The big red Dave’s Custom Boats catamaran just pulled in earlier today. There’s going to be some incredible hardware here.”

The course for the run takes the go-fast boat fleet on the Sacramento River Delta from the Discovery Bay Marina to the Pittsburg Marina and Yacht Club, and then to a lunch stop with live music in Stockton. Cards are distributed after the boats return to the Discovery Bay Marina, site of the Saturday evening award’s presentation and post-run dinner and celebration.
