For the first time in more than a decade, Super Boat International Stock-class veteran and fan favorite Ryan Beckley of the S-111/DoubleEdge Motorsports team will be out of the cockpit of his 30-foot Skater Powerboats raceboat for the SBI Offshore World Championships in Key West, Fla., which begin next week. Taking the throttleman’s seat for Beckley, who experienced a significant health problem earlier this season, is John Robinson of Naples, Fla., and Greg DiRenzo of Lodi, N.J.
With a new team in the cockpit, the S-111/DoubleEdge motorsports Skater catamaran will fly the banners of returning sponsors, as well as several new backers (click image to enlarge).
“I am out of the boat due to recovering from my now-healing heart rate issues from A-Fib (Atrial Fibrillation),” said Beckley. “Chris Economides, my son, as always will be our crew chief.
With primary backing from longtime returning S-111 team Key West sponsor Curry Refrigeration & Air Conditioning/RUDD/Tropic Supply, Robinson and DiRenzo come with solid offshore racing resumes.
“Greg’s father—Dr. DiRenzo—raced Scorpio and Medicine Man in the late ’70 and early ’80s and Greg raced his own Sutphen, Inferno, in the mid-to-late ’90s,” he continued. “John was World Champion in 2006 driving his 36-foot Skater, Snake Man.”
In addition to returning sponsors Florida Keys Electric, Hy-Tech Solutions, Blake Brothers Racing, Screaming Nuts (“They’ve been with us for 10 years,” said Beckley), and 5 Brothers Grocery & Sandwich Shop, the team has two new supporters— Anchoring.com and Curtis Mountain Mafia—for next week’s SBI Worlds. Season-long backers include Ronstan Paper and Packaging, MadEFI.com, Crisis Management Poker Run Team, Yellowfin Yachts and Kinetic Animation, Beckley’s vinyl graphics business based in Bradenton, Fla.
