Baja to Unveil Special ‘Mystery Model’ at Fort Lauderdale Show

When the 2012 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show kicks off in late October, Baja will display four new models. The Washington, N.C., builder will unveil two revamped offerings from its Islander series—the 247 and the 278—a 26 Outlaw sportboat and a special-edition model in the “30- to 35-foot range,” according to John Walker, who is heading the reintroduction and renewed production of the Baja line.

“Craig Barrie and I our working on something special for Fort Lauderdale,” said Walker in a telephone interview this afternoon. “We want to keep that one a surprise.”

Baja recently added redesigned 30- and 35-footers to its Outlaw series. Walker said that he is pleased with the progress of the Baja line to date, as well as demand for and dealer interest in the products.

“I think we’ve signed 11 or 12 dealers so far,” he said.

As for the status and future of the Donzi and Fountain lines, Walker said he had nothing official to report at this time and declined to comment further.

“I’m hoping to have something out there in the next few weeks,” he said.
