In what has turned into a busy production facility as of late, the Custom Marine Group factory in Washington, N.C., recently churned out a couple of new boats that the team was proud to deliver last weekend to Big Thunder Marine, the Osage Beach, Mo., dealer that signed on earlier this year to carry three of the company’s boat lines—Baja Marine, Donzi Marine and Fountain Powerboats.

Both the Baja 23 Islander and the Donzi 22 Classic delivered to Big Thunder Marine, which has been expanding ever since its rebirth nearly a year ago, were ordered for stock purposes and are currently for sale.
Powered by a single Mercury Marine Verado 300 outboard engine mounted to the swim platform that’s connected to the transom, the Baja 23 Islander, which tops out at a reported 54 mph, features classic red and black graphics with stylish upholstery inside to match. The 23-footer is the second Baja to be delivered to the dealership—the first was a 35 Outlaw with a pair of 430-hp MerCruiser 8.2 Mag HO engines.
The Donzi 22 Classic delivered to Big Thunder features timeless red-and-white graphics and a MerCruiser 8.2 Mag HO engine. It reportedly runs 72 mph and is one of many 22-footers that are expected to be built at the factory over the next several months. The next one coming down the production line features a 565-hp Mercury engine and is expected to top 90 mph.

“Both the Baja 23 Islander and the Donzi 22 Classic are great little boats,” said Reggie Fountain III, the company’s high-performance engineer who is involved with new product development, quality control and other functions. “The Baja is a great runabout, and with a 300-hp Verado on the back, it has a bunch of room and a ton of versatility. The boat also has a lot of storage, a head compartment and a cool lounge area.
“And the Donzi 22 Classic—you wouldn’t believe how hot those boats are right now,” he continued. “We probably have 20 or more on order. Talk about a great starter boat for someone looking to move up the Donzi line. We justed one with 540 horsepower under the hatch that is going to Outpost Marine Group—it is real fun to drive. It’s a great-running boat.”
Available at Outpost Marine Group in Holiday, Fla., the vibrant blue Donzi 22 Classic powered by a Mercury Racing 540 engine reportedly runs 86 mph.
According to Big Thunder Marine’s Ed Champion, the dealer has several more boats scheduled to be delivered throughout the summer, including a Fountain 38 Lightning with twin 565-hp Mercury engines.
