The primary organizer of the annual Lake Powell Challenge based out of Antelope Point Marina in Page, Ariz., Amber McDaniel reached out yesterday. McDaniel wanted to know if there was space for one more auction item at the 12th annual Speed On The Water Key West Bash charity auction set for Thursday, November 6, at the Pickle’s Pub Sandbar on Greene Street.

And thanks to the generosity of McDaniel and her team, the Lake Powell Challenge Experience is the 10th and final item to be auctioned off next month during the celebrating benefitting the nonprofit Samuel’s House and ACEH Health Centers Key organizations. The packages includes houseboat lodging, a slip at the marine, RV parking, the event entry fee and more.

No stranger to exotic boating destinations, John Cosker of Mystic Powerboats fame described his recent trip to the Lake Powell as “like boating on Mars.” (Read the complete story.)

Why just 10 items? Why 15 or even 20? It’s a fair with a simple answer.

Time. There isn’t enough of it that evening.

The auction lasts 90 minutes as per its permit the event ends at 10 p.m. Plus, Key West is a city of endless diversions and bright shiny objects. As such, visitor attention-spans tend to be short.

So that’s it for auction items. With No. 10 inked, the list officially is closed. This is one event you do not want to miss.
