The defending Superboat Extreme-class world champion Instigator team will arrive for the Super Boat International season-opener this weekend (May 13-15) in Cocoa Beach, Fla., eager to notch a victory for AMH Construction, its new primary sponsor for the 2016 season. Based in Orlando, Fla., AMH Construction is “a nationwide leader in construction and project management, and a cornerstone of innovation of the industry,” according to the company’s website.
Said Peter Meyer, “I can’t wait to go racing. I’m not sure who our competition is going to be, but I can’t wait.”
Offshore racing veteran Peter Meyer, the team’s owner, will throttle the well-known canopied 40-foot Fountain Powerboats V-bottom. His longtime driver and teammate Johnny Stanch will join him in the cockpit.
“I’m very happy that AMH Construction has stepped up to the plate,” Meyer said. “We’re trying to get as much publicity as we can for AMH.”
According to Instigator team representative Julie Meyer, it’s been a busy off-season for the Instigator crew. Frank McComas rebuilt the 40-footer’s twin 750-hp engines. To make the most of that power, they installed new headers and tailpipes from CMI. For added comfort in the cockpit this season, they added an air-conditiong system from Cruise N Comfort.
“We have worked on the boat quite bit,” Meyer said.
Perhaps the most visible change for the Instigator team is its new graphics for its new primary sponsor (designed in house at AMH and produced and installed by Kinetic Animation), as well as graphics for The Social House and Underground Public House, a couple of restaurants in the Orlando area. The application of those graphics is underway and will be completed in time for the Cocoa Beach event.
For the Instigator team, last year’s SBI world championship was its 12th world title and its fifth Triple Crown. In addition to running a full SBI season, the team plans to compete in the upcoming Offshore Powerboat Association race in Point Pleasant, N.J.
“I ran back in Point Pleasant 30 years ago,” Meyer said. “They haven’t had it back there for awhile. It’s always rough there and I’m looking forward to going back for old time’s sake.
“I can’t wait to go racing,” he added. “I’m not sure who our competition is going to be, but I can’t wait.”
