Like many of the volunteers on the committee behind the Boyne Thunder Poker Run in Boyne City, Mich., Mike Knoblock, owner of American Custom Marine in Kimball, Mich., considers the poker run to be one of the best events in the country.
American Custom Marine in Kimball, Mich., is a major sponsor of this summer’s Erie and Boyne Thunder poker runs.
Based on the registration numbers alone, it’s hard to argue the point when the 13th annual event sold out in less than half an hour a few weeks ago. With a limited capacity, the poker run, which takes place July 7-9, was open to the first 100 past participants with an additional 10 spots reserved for newcomers. Organizers also have a waiting list.
“We always fill up, but to do so in 27 minutes was incredible,” said Knoblock, adding that the dealership and service facility he started almost five years ago is already rocking and rolling thanks to a couple of warmer weekends in March. “I’ve been doing the Boyne Thunder Poker Run for 10 years—there’s no way I’d miss it. Of course we have a bunch of clients who do the run, and our company sponsors it, but I also do the run so I can rub elbows with my customers.
