American Custom Marine Delivers First In Trio Of Mercury Racing 400R-Powered Nor-Tech 340s

American Custom Marine is on a roll with Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats 340 Sport center consoles powered by triple Mercury Racing 400R outboard engines. Michael Knoblock, the owner of the full-service Nor-Tech dealer in Kimball, Mich., delivered the first of three he has on order to a Southern Michigan-based, publicity-shy customer last Saturday. By the time July rolls around, Knoblock and company will have delivered two more 34-footers with 1,200 hp worth of supercharged six-cylinder outboards on their transoms.

American Custom Marine’s Michael Knoblock delivered this elegant Nor-Tech 340 Sport center console to a Michigan-based customer last weekend.

“It’ll run in the mid-to-high 80s on that power,” he said. “It’s a great-running boat with that setup.

“I always recommend triples, either 400s or 350s, on the 34,” he continued. “A lot of the boats we sell end up in the Great Lakes or the ocean, and with triples you can still run and get home in good time if you lose an engine—something you can’t do if you lose an engine with twins. That doesn’t matter as much on smaller lakes, but it does on bigger bodies of water. Plus, there’s the resale component. I can sell a triple-engine-powered center console much faster than I can sell a twin-engine-powered center console.”

The center console owner, according to Knoblock, is a longtime performance-boat enthusiast who was ready to make a change.

“He had other boats but he got rid of all of them,” said Knoblock, who delivered the 34-footer on a custom trailer from MYCO Trailers. “He wanted a high-performance center console. I spent a couple of hours on it on the water with him on Saturday and then he dropped me off and headed to the boat lift behind his house. It was 43 degrees out but he really wanted to get on the boat.

“I have two more 340s with triple 400Rs in production now,” he added. “One is almost done and the other will be finished by the end of June.”

Said Knoblock, “It’s a great-running boat with that power.”
