Adrenaline Powerboats Putting Finishing Touches on ZRX 47

The work-in-progress Adrenaline ZRX 47 was on display at the Key West Poker Run Village.

For us—and anyone else in Key West, Fla., last month for the Florida Powerboat Club Key West Poker Run—it was cool to get a chance to see and lay our hands on the first ZRX 47 Carbon Series V-bottom from Adrenaline Powerboats.

And we have Chris Walker of SuperTruck to thank for the opportunity. Without his motivation, there’s little chance Mike Layton, the founder of Adrenaline Powerboats in Lincolnton, Ga., would have brought the unfinished boat he’s been building with (and for) Walker for more than a year and put it on display in the Poker Run Village.

It’s not that Layton wasn’t proud of the silver, yellow and black 47-footer that sat beside Walker’s matching SuperTruck minus its Mercury Racing 1100 engines and all the rigging that goes with them, it’s just that he’s not the type of person who wants to be judged on a product that is far from complete. To his point, the interior was temporarily installed as it left the shop.

The matching over-the-top SuperTruck is ready to handle towing and entertainment duty.

Fast forward a few weeks later and Layton and company are cranking on the ZRX 47 with the goal of putting it in the water before the end of the year as well as having it on display at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Ariz., in mid-January. A second 47-footer—a reconfigured outboard-powered version—is going to finished in several months.

Of course you can count on speedonthewater.com to bring you progress reports on the ZRX 47, which is expected to make quite a splash in 2018 at events around the country.
