Active Thunder Building 565-Powered 37-Footer for Miami Show

Active Thunder Powerboats is getting ready to rig and paint its first Mercury Racing 565 engine-powered V-bottom—a 37’ Excess. The twin-engine, stepped-hull 37-footer will be unveiled—and for sale—at the 2013 Miami International Boat Show in February.

“We expect it to run in the low 90-mph range with the 565s,” said Patrick Haughey, the principal of the Pompano Beach, Fla., custom go-fast boat company.  “We build a heavy boat—it will weigh 10,000 pounds—so we don’t expect it to be much faster than that.”

With its transom painted prior to engine installation, the Active Thunder 37' Excess is ready for its twin Mercury Racing 565s.

Haughey said the boat will be painted “Ferrari red,” and will be outfitted with a number of upgrades including David Hunter-designed graphics, a 15-inch Garmin GPS unit, a 3,000 watt stereo system with ten speakers and a billet-engraved aluminum swim platform with the Active Thunder logo.

The “Miami show price” for the boat, which includes an $88,3650 show discount, is $314,900.
