Launched in June, ABC Permits of Mapleton, N.D., specializes in securing permits for oversized, wide-load catamarans and V-bottoms. According to company permit manager Jennifer Snow, who works closely with fellow permit/trailing compliance expert Wanda Isenberg and has been handling permit for offshore racing teams and high-performance powerboat owners for more than 20 years, the permitting process can be tricky for even longtime experience boat owners.

“We do oversized, overweight and over-height permits for all 50 states and into Canada,” she said. “I started working for my uncle, and I have been handling boat trailering permits ever since I started. We can help owners with everything involved, including helping them with the best routes to get where they’re going.”

Trailer permits vary from state to state, Snow explained, and the process is complicated. Citations for oversized trailering infractions can result in fines in the tens of thousand of dollar, so investing a few hundreds dollars on proper permits—through a company understands the process—is money well spent, she said.

“Even if people just have questions, they’re welcome to call us,” she said.
