By any measure, 60-plus boats is a good turnout for an organized boating event. But when you get 60-plus boats from the same builder in one place for one weekend, well, that’s outstanding. Earlier this year, Cigarette Racing Team pulled it off with its Owners Rendezvous hosted by Performance Boat Center at the Lake of Ozarks in Central Missouri. Last weekend, DCB Performance Boats attracted 61 owners of its fine catamarans and V-bottoms—and a total of more than 300 guests—to its 26th annual Owners Regatta in Lake Havasu City, Ariz.
“We had a really good turnout,” said Jeff Johnston of DCB Performance Boats, which is based in El Cajon, Calif. “It was a little windy with 20- to 25-mph gusts so everyone took it easy, but I’ll take that over the blazing heat we had last year any time.”
Each DCB boat owner paid $245 to enter the event—a bargain considering that the fee included two dinner tickets for the Saturday night awards celebration following the day’s poker run and a goodie bag that actually included real goodies such as a 24-pack carbon-fiber American Outdoors cooler, a 30-ounce stainless-steel tumbler, boat cleaning/polishing products from Meguiar’s and Boat Bling and fuel stabilizer from Lucas Oil. (Johnston estimated the value of the goodie bag alone to be more than $200.) Plus, DCB raffled off more than $10,000 worth of prizes including two 65-inch flat-screen televisions and an iPad during the awards banquet at the Nautical Inn, the host venue for the event.
